It’s finally happening!!
After two months and a half I am finally going to South America!!
I don’t know whether I will have enough money but I worked as hard as I can switching between three part time jobs so no regrets! Actually I’m pretty sure this isn’t enough but maybe that would make me more open to opportunities out there as I will be travelling so broke. Haha. Maybe begging on the streets with a borrowed guitar. Who knows?
The most important thing is I’m finally going! Next week and I’ll be at my first destination.
So keep tuned! I’ll be posting shortly about why I feel like I threw away half of my stuff and my bag still feels so big and heavy!
Moments like this that help you to look forward to today and tomorrow and keep amazing memories in the past.
I woke up for the first time in a million years at 4am. Apparently sun rise at Boston was supposed to be at 5:08am so I decided to jog to the Charles river with my friend.
Believe me. I was one grouchy person to wake up. My friend had to push me this way and that. She had to pull away my blankets and then put the alarm next to my ear. Then she played the guilt trip card and started talking about how it was my idea to go jog at 4am because we should and now is the time.
Yep! The guilt trip worked. We ran to the bridge and looked out at the vast water and sun rise although the sun was covered with a lot of clouds. While coming back I told my friend I never wanted to this again.
But you know what is so funny? I actually felt so GREAT for the whole day! I felt amazing! It was the longest morning I have ever enjoyed. I felt refreshed, I actually got some work done early in the morning and when I looked at the clock it was only 9am!! It was like I had the whole world to myself. Like I had gotten some magic watch that Hermione uses in Harry Potter. Like I could control time. It was AMAZING!!
You know that feeling when you wake up at half the day is gone? Well waking up for a sunrise jog is totally the opposite of that. It’s like you earned 2 days! I will definitely do this more often.
If you guys are stressed or just feel a bit down these days why not go for a morning jog? At 5am the whole world is yours–no one beeping at you, slamming into you on the pedestrian walk. Just you, yourself and the morning. Enjoy!
Okay so for my big trip to South America I’m thinking I need something to start on.
Will I run out of money? Probably.
I may end up teaching English, may start my life as a beggar or maybe life will hurl other opportunities at me.
But before that I need something to start with.
I’m trying to make 100 dollars a day. Then after 3 months I will have around 9000.
But minus my current living expenses and I may be left with 6000.
Is 6000 enough for a very long trip in South America?
I have no idea. But hey it’s something to start off with for now.
What do you think? Is 6000 enough for a 6 months plus backpacking trip to South America?
I know life doesn’t work as planned but hey this is why I ended up here preparing for a very long backpacking trip to South America.
So this is the plan:
Save up money BIG TIME (for three months?)
Learn some Spanish
oh and did I mention save money?
I have no idea how to pack for a what could turn out to be a year long backpacking trip
but as everyone who travels desires
I hope to travel LIGHT
I will have to pack so little to travel light but probably I will be able to grab necessities and other stuff throughout my journey. I’m thinking I will take a few clothes with me, my laptop, camera and cellphone. (Sounds like an electronic freak) 😀
I am hoping to live and travel on a budget in South America…perhaps $500 a month? It’s totally possible for places like Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru but we’ll see about Chile, Argentina and Brazil. I heard they can get pretty damn expensive.
So keep tuned! Let’s see how this all turns out. I’ll be writing about inside scoops of preparing for a backpacking trip and what actually goes on during one.
